Peddapuram (East Godavari): YSRC chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy alleged heavy corruption in the Polavaram project, the lifeline of five crore people in the state. Mounting a scathing attack on the TDP and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Jagan said that right from foundation stage, corruption has become rampant at all stages and charged the ruling party leaders for the same.

Addressing a public meeting at Dargah centre in Peddapuram on Wednesday as part of his Praja Sankalpa yatra, Jagan said the farmers in the area alleged large scale graft in construction of Polavaram project right from the base.

He said the contract of the project has been awarded to close relatives of finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. Jagan remarked that Naidu visits Polavaram every Monday not to inspect works progress but for collecting commissions from contractors. Though Naidu says 56 per cent of Polavaram works were completed, in fact, the works did not progress as expected, Jagan said.

He reminded the left and right canals of Polavaram project were completed during late YSR regime. Turning his attention towards remunerative price to farm produce, Jagan observed that in the last four years of TD rule, no crop did not get remunerative price. He said the remunerative price for jaggery was so poor when compared to regime of late YSR.

Responding on handlooms, Jagan said in  the last 10 months, no payments were made to APCO and the arrears piled up to crores of rupees. Commenting on drinking water, Jagan observed that the rural sector was facing severe drinking water shortage, whereas the liquor was available at all places.
