New facility at Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone
Visakhapatnam: Biomaterials are materials of natural origin or made synthetically which can be implanted to replace or repair missing tissue. There is an emphasis on testing services for biomaterials and biopolymers which has increased demand as they have found increasing application within healthcare technology, such as regenerative dentistry, bone graft, tissue scaffolds, wound care, implantable devices and cosmetic surgery.
To address various unmet clinical needs and challenging problems, newer biomaterials are constantly being developed and ideas are evolving. However, the path from the laboratory bench to the patient is rough and unpredictable with technical, regulatory and market hurdles along the way.
To focus on addressing some of these challenges, a scientific facility “Centre for Biomaterial Testing” has been developed in Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ).
The highlights of Centre for Biomaterial testing facility at AMTZ includes sterility evaluation, histopathology evaluation, physiochemical evaluation, accelerated aging and package validation. The tests are performed in accordance with international standards like ISO and ASTM.
The state-of-the-art laboratory, which is primarily intended for medical device industry for physio-chemical evaluation, as well as biological evaluation of samples, can also serve industries like chemical, polymer and pharmaceuticals to evaluate the characteristics of materials using spectroscopic and imaging modalities like SEM and TEM.
This facility allows the manufacturers to test their products at a very low-cost price and assists them to overcome deficiencies in their products, thereby enhancing product value in the market.
