Chief of Army Staff apprised of Andhra University defence education project

Visakhapatnam: Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University Prof G Nageswara Rao met Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Additional Secretary of Defence Subhash Chandra and explained about the Andhra University Defence Education Project. 

Speaking to the Vice-Chancellor, General Bipin Rawat said that courses like yoga, cyber security, big data and artificial intelligence are in demand for the Army personnel and agreed to send Army officers to Andhra University to understand the requirements needed from the Army side to sign the MoU with the university.

The Vice-Chancellor briefed about the defence courses being offered to the Army, Navy and Airforce personnel.  During the meeting, it was discussed that the diploma, certificate, degree, PG and PhD courses may be pursued in the university campus after signing the MoU, and also explained about the lateral entry opportunities for the Army personnel.

Later, the Vice-Chancellor met Union Minister for Home Affairs Rajnath Singh and briefed about running of different courses being offered by Andhra University and requested him to visit the Andhra University Campus. The  Minister accepted the Vice- Chancellor’s invitation and assured that he would visit the university at an earliest.

The Vice-Chancellor also met Additional Secretary of Defence Subhash Chandra and Joint Secretary P. Hari Prasad to launch a centre for the Defence Studies in Andhra University. Dr K Kumar Raja, Academic Senate Member, and Ujjwal Kumar Ghatak, Academic Adviser of Andhra University, also present.
