No vizag railway Zone
Hyderabad/Visakhapatnam: The Centre seems to have done it again - saying one thing and doing exactly the opposite. After the steel plant fiasco, a repeat seems to be in the pipeline with regard to the Visakhapatnam Railway Zone.
While sending signals loud and clear that it was in favour of making an announcement for the creation of a railway zone with Visakhapatnam as HQ next week, the Union Home Ministry, in an affidavit filed with the Supreme Court, made it clear that it was not possible to create a railway zone as it is financially not viable.
The Union Home Ministry, which filed the affidavit in the apex court on a petition seeking Centre's statement on the implementation of the assurances enunciated in the AP State Reorganisation Act, 2014, said the new railway zone would not be financially viable. It said the meeting of railway officials held on March 12 this year had made this point very clear.
Interestingly, the BJP leaders in Visakhapatnam received inputs from Delhi on Saturday that the Centre was on the verge of announcing the formation of Visakhapatnam railway zone. The BJP leaders claimed that the announcement will come next week in Parliament.
