Visakhapatnam: The CPM slammed the BJP for its double standard on the long-pending north Andhra region people’s demand special railway zone Visakhapatnam as headquarters. Sanctioning of special railway zone was listed in the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act-2014, but the NDA government led by BJP is dragging the issue, the CPM alleged.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, CPM district secretary K Loknatham pointed out the NDA government’s affidavit filed in the Supreme Court saying that railway zone is not viable, however, the Visakhapatnam BJP leaders went to New Delhi on Saturday to express their thanks to the BJP government claiming that railway zone would be announced in Parliament.

“What is this dual standard? What exactly the BJP government wishes to send a message to Andhra Pradesh people? How long will the BJP leaders cheat the people of Andhra Pradesh? The BJP government must establish the railway zone and it cannot go back for any reason. During the 2014 elections, the BJP leaders announced that they will establish the railway zone after coming to power,” Lokanatham reminded.

Believing the BJP’s assurance, the Visakhapatnam people elected BJP candidate K Haribabu. The BJP government should immediately set up the zone without further delay, he demanded. The most backward area north Andhra region would be developed, if the railway zone is established in Visakhapatnam.
