Civic body meet ends abruptly
Proddatur (Kadapa): Heated exchange between Municipal Chairman A Raghurami Reddy and TDP councillors on personal issue led to the abrupt ending of the civic body meeting on Monday, without discussing any issues as per the agenda.
The meeting started at 11 am with the proposal of discussing about various important issues like laying drinking water pipelines and fixing public taps at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, Rs 18 lakh for the construction of road dividers and irregularities in calling tenders for various works.
Proceedings were disrupted when the TDP floor leader Muralidhar Reddy made allegations against Raghu Rami Reddy that he misused the public money by raising the bills for his official vehicle rent while he was using his own car for the purpose.
The civic chief replied that he followed the practice of previous Chairman as he drawn the bills by using his own car as an official
vehicle. This led to the uproar in the meeting and the civic chief left the meeting without discussing other issues.
Some councillors tried to conduct the proceedings headed by Vice-Chairman Zabiullah Khan by calling back Commissioner Bandi Seshanna. The Commissioner said it was against the norms to conduct a civic body meeting in the absence of Chairman. Meanwhile, some councillors took the issue to the notice of the Collector.
