Cops concerned over rise in trafficking

Kurnool: ‘World Day against Human Trafficking’ was observed in here on Monday. Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) P Shaik Shavali flagged off a rally to mark the occasion.

The rally which was started from Raj Vihar Centre has culminated at Telugu Talli statue near Konda Reddy Fort where a human circle has been formed. Thousands of women, students and others participated in the rally showing placards to create awareness on human trafficking.

Addressing on the occasion, the ASP expressed concern over human trafficking and said all sections of people including the poor are vulnerable to trafficking. 

In Rayalaseema region, Kurnool stands next to Anantapur district in human trafficking, he stated. The ASP said the “SHE” teams in Kurnool are concentrating on human trafficking, flesh trade and other illegal activities and are reaping better results in bringing down the crime rate.

“We are educating the students about the good and bad touch after conducting awareness programmes at schools, colleges and welfare homes,” he mentioned. 

He further said that thousands of men, women and children are ending up in the hands of traffickers every year. They are often tricked and lured to believe that they are being taken to work. There are many ways that that people are caught in trafficking. He appealed to the people to bring to the notice of the cops if they come across such incidents. 

Lok Adalat Judge Srinivasa Rao said several resolutions have been made by the United Nations Organisations (UNO) on child rights and human trafficking is crime and has prohibited under Article 23 of the Constitution.

He expressed concern over children below the age of 18 are becoming victims to human trafficking. Though several acts are in force, people should be very cautious in case of human trafficking.

There is every need to educate people about human trafficking, stated the Judge Srinivasa Rao. DRO Sashi Devi, RDO Hussain Saheb, Additional SP (Armed Reserve) I Venkatesh, school and college students participated in the rally.
