SPDCL awareness campaign from August 2
Tirupati: As part of its intensive promotion of digital payment of electricity bill, Southern Power Distribution Company (SPDCL) taken up an awareness programme to be held from August 2 to 25.
Speaking to media here on Sunday SPDCL Superintendent Engineer DV Chalapathi said as many as 500 employees working in various wings will be involved in the massive awareness programme in Chittoor district with a focus on rural area.
Though digital payment of electricity bill was introduced two years ago and a dozen apps are now available to facilitate digital payment, only 16 per cent of 11.22 lakh domestic customers in Chittoor district are availing the online facility for payment of electricity bill, he said while explaining the reason behind the SPDCL taking up the massive 23 day long awareness campaign covering 8 districts.
The SPDCL personnel will take up door to door campaign to promote digital payment of electricity bill, he said and added that there are no additional charges for the customers opting online bill payment. The special campaign aimed to take up the digital payment of bills to 50 per cent confined to domestic category (non-commercial) sector only.
Chalapathi said that the SPDCL got an income of Rs 1.48 crore from 15,253 customers through the Voluntary Disclosure Scheme (VDS) introduced for regularisation of extra load. He informed the last date for availing VDS will be ended by this month.
