Tirupati: The reconstruction of Thimmappa temple at Thondavada near here will be taken up soon, said Padiri Dhananjaya Reddy, general secretary of the committee set up for the temple construction.

Addressing a gathering at the temple site on Sunday, Reddy said that `Prachina Thimmappa Devalaya Punaruddharana Samithi (PTDPS)’ has been formed for the reconstruction of the ruined Thimmappa Devalayam and the work would soon begin.

Kalyanotsavam and Kunkuma pooja were performed as a preparatory programme (Sankalpa Pooja) for the temple reconstruction on Sunday. A good number of people including women from Thondavada, Chandragiri and surrounding villages participated in the Sankalpa Pooja.

The magnificent temple was built by Thiruvenkata Nathudu in 1542 and was destroyed in the Muslim invasion, leaving only parts of the temple which are in dilapidated condition now.

Various Hindu organisations demanded the TTD and also the government endowment department to take up the reconstruction of the temple but there was no response.
