AP Govt plans additional Anna canteens at crowded places

Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said that normally food is being prepared at Anna Canteens for 300-500 people and they were considering starting another canteen at such places where the crowd exceeds 1,000.

Minister visited Anna Canteen at Thadikela Bazar Centre in the city on Tuesday and observed premises of the canteen and had his lunch there. He interacted with the public who were standing  in queue lines and enquired about the quality of food being served to them.

Speaking to the media, Narayana said that they would set up another 103 Anna canteens across the state before the end of September this year. ``State government has been providing quality food to the poor just for Rs.5 per each meal.

Government is paying subsidy of Rs.73 per person to Akshaya Patra foundation,’ said the Minister. He said the government planned to inaugurate 40 canteens across the state by end of August. 

Later, the Minister visited KAC Junior College and interacted with the students of the College. He asked the students to prepare for competitive examinations to get admissions in top universities of the country.

‘We provide corporate education to two sections in DKW, VR College and also in KAC Junior college. Study material is supplied to the students to improve their standards. State government had focused on providing quality education for Intermediate students and also for Degree students,’’ Narayana said. 

He also informed that they would construct labs, computer rooms and other basic amenities in all 41 schools in the city. State government is making efforts for providing basic amenities at all 2,500 schools spread across 110 municipalities in the state within next four months, he added.

City Mayor Sk Abdul Aziz, Municipal Commissioner Sk Alim Basha, SSA Project Director Viswanath, RIO (Regional Intermediate Officer) Babu Jacob and others were present.
