Preserve cultural heritage for posterity
Vijayawada: The cultural heritage of the nation should be preserved and protected for the future generations and everyone should voluntarily participate in this movement, said Major General L K Gupta, Chairman of the Indian National Trust for Art Culture and Heritage (INTACH).
He was the chief guest at the conference ‘Safeguard Heritage’ organised by the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati on Monday. Addressing the gathering INTACH AP convener M Gopala Krishna said that Andhra Pradesh has huge historical monuments and artifacts and to save these structures, there should be cooperation between the Central and State Archaeological bodies, Endowments Department, Tourism and Culture, Roads and Buildings, Irrigation and Municipal Corporation departments.
Gopala Krishna said that the INTACH has brought a book from their publications division written by Cultural Centre CEO E Sivanagi Reddy in this regard. Special Chief Secretary for Endowments Dr Manmohan Singh said INTACH should support the Endowments Department in safeguarding the temple’s sculptures.
Endowments Department Commissioner Anuradha, Kanaka Durga Temple EO Dr Padma, Srisailam EO Ramachandra Murthy, Simhachalam Ramachandra Mohan, Amaravati EO Srinivasa Reddy, Malakshmi Group Chairman Y Harischandra Prasad, Language & Culture Director, Dr D Vizia Bhaskar and others were present.
