Road safety panels at mandal-level mooted

Tirupati: District Collector PS Pradyumna has asked the District Transport Commissioner (DTC) Prathap to take steps for setting up ‘Road Safety Committees’ at mandal-level immediately comprising of SI, MPDO, AEs of R&B and Panchayat Raj.

He conducted district road safety committee meeting in Tirupati on Tuesday. Steps should also be taken to fix radium stickers and blinkers on all roads which clearly shows the road margins in the nights.

He recalled that accidents have come down significantly by providing blinkers on important highways with Rs 50 lakh. Another Rs 50 lakh would be earmarked to provide more blinkers on other highways where the need is felt.

The Collector also asked the authorities to take action on dealers, who sell two-wheelers without fixing GPS system. Equipping GPS software in all school buses and ambulances should be completed by August 15.

Chittoor SP SV Rajasekhar Babu has said that accidents have come down on all important roads except NH 40 at Piler where they have gone up by 30 per cent as there were no dividers for 10 kms causing overtaking of vehicles.

Collector has directed the RTC RM T Chengal Reddy to take action on RTC drivers, who are responsible for accidents. He took strong note of the increase in accidents in which RTC buses were involved.

Municipal Commissioner V Vijaya Rama Raju, Tirupati Urban SP Abhishek Mohanty, RDO G Narasimhulu, RTO G Vivekananda Reddy, NHAI Engineer Venkateswarlu, Dy DM&HO Dr Aruna Sulochana Devi and other officials participated.
