Awareness meet on stem cells organised at KBN College
Vijayawada: With stem cells, there is a wide range of benefits to human beings, said Dr V Narayana Rao, principal of KBN College.
He participated in the awareness programme on Stem Cell and creating awareness to donate stem cell on the college premises on Wednesday.
The programme was jointly organised by college NSS wing, college alumni with the support of Dhatri Foundation.
Addressing the gathering, the principal said that everyday lakhs of stem cells would produce in the human body and die the same day.
He said that with stem cells, blood cancer can be cured. He said that stem cells will be the same for one in 25,000 people.
Thalassemia can be cured by matching stem cells of thalassemia patient with a normal person and cure that disease, he explained.
He said that Dhatri Foundation was collecting stem cells from 10 lakh people across the country.
The present youth should have awareness on the use of stem cells and awareness programmes should be organised, he added.
NSS unit programme officer V Seshagiri Rao, POs J Panduranga Rao, Sagarika, Red Ribbon Club convener MV Srinivas Rao and others were present.
