Rajamahendravaram: The Inmates of SC hostel staged a dharna at Y Junction here, on Thursday, demanding that the government should provide basic facilities in the hostels immediately.

The students alleged that they submitted a representation to the Sub-collector CM Saikanth Varma and other officials 15 days ago but it was not productive.

Because of the dharna, the traffic movement was stalled at Y Junction for two hours. The Central zone deputy superintendent of police J Kula Sekhar, the three-town inspector Maruthi Rao rushed to the spot.

Later, the deputy superintendent of police discussed with the students and assured them to sort out their problems and took them to  the Sub-collector.

With this, the students called off the protest programme. The students alleged that the officials were supplying less quality food, accommodating 20 students in one room, lack of drinking water, etc,.

There was no sufficient staff and the hostel warden never comes to hostel, the agitators complained.
