Chittoor: For the first time in the district, an Anganwadi Centre at Mahasamudram village in Bangarupalem mandal has won certification from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). Dr Shilpa Pradyumna, wife of District Collector PS Pradyumna, had adopted the Anganwadi Centre two years ago and developed it on par with certification standards.

A function was organised at Mahasamudram on Friday, on the occasion of Anganwadi Centre achieving ISO certification. Dr Shilpa has participated as a chief guest for the programme. Addressing the gathering, Shilpa recalled that she was very much inclined in developing the Anganwadi Centres in the interest of kids and mothers.

“Anganwadis are the most ideal educational and service centres to promote basic education for the kids and moms. There is an absolute need for strengthening them with minimum facilities,” she said, giving a call to the voluntary organisations, philanthropists and public to come forward and lend their support to Anganwadi Centres.

Shilpa further stated she adopted several centres in Bangarupalem mandal and developed them to a certain extent by providing the infrastructure and basis amenities. She appreciated the role of workers and helpers in achieving the ISO certification for the Anganwadi Centre. She urged the workers and helpers of other Anganwadis to follow the standards being followed at Mahasamudram Anganwadi Centre.

ICDS Project Director Usha Phanikar said that the state government has hiked the salaries of the workers and helpers of Anganwadi Centres. She patted Shilpa for rendering services to strengthen the Anganwadis in various mandals. Bangarupalem CPDO Nirmala has explained the progress in the Anganwadi Centres. Later, Shilpa distributed the sweets and biscuits to the Anganwadi kids and interacted with the mothers. Supervisor Nagaratnamma, worker Ramadevi and helper Lavanya were present.
