Call to strive for overall development of kids
Nellore: Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Senior Civil Judge PJ Sudha said that role of teachers is crucial in education for moulding their lives and asked them to work for overall development of the children.
She addressed a workshop organised by Chaitanya Jyothi Welfare Society in the city on Monday on disaster preparedness among schoolchildren in coastal villages and said corporate schooling had failed to teach them life skills to cope with the new challenges they face every day in the society.
The Senior Civil Judge lauded services of the society preparing them for facing natural challenges in coastal villages. She said students take their mothers and teachers as role models and it is fundamental responsibility of the teachers to consider overall development of the pupils.
That’s why now majority are getting attracted to the corporate style of schooling where they don’t grow as children with all capabilities due to lacking direct interaction with the society, she said. She said many sexual abuse cases are being reported and still children should come forward to explain such instances. Sudha said children are now prone to trafficking and said many cases were filed in the district.
She lamented that 30 per cent of girls and women, who were in the clutches of red light areas across the country, are Telugu population which gives a danger alarm. She said only bookish knowledge is not enough for successful life that requires practical wisdom for overcoming challenges of life mentioning regular news about suicides of students even at the tender age.
Project Officer of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan A Viswanath said they are shortly starting virtual classrooms and studio in the district and appreciated efforts of the ‘Save the Children’ and their partner organisations for providing ICT Centres in coastal mandals for convenience of the rural and vulnerable population.
CJWS president I Srinivasa Rao, District Child Protection Officer Suresh Babu, Coast Guard official Lakshman Rao, government teachers from various schools of coastal mandals, and others were present.
