Women stage protest for clean drinking water
Akiveedu: Women belonging to Kuppanapudi village under Akiveedu mandal staged a protest with empty pitchers demanding the government to supply safe drinking water on Sunday.
They complained that they were getting water supply with mud and colour through pipelines. The protesters alleged that the officials had given permission for fish and prawn ponds in residential areas.
As a result, water was getting polluted. The agitators expressed concern that the government had failed to act even though they rallied to collectorate and submitted a representation to Collector to solve their problem. They wanted the officials to destroy the aqua ponds dug without permissions.
The women lamented that they had been vulnerable to waterborne health problems because of consuming contaminated water. They thanked the CPM leaders for expressing solidarity to their agitation.
They urged the Collector to visit their village and take steps for destryoing the aqua ponds which were the root cause for the water contamination.
