AP Vidyarthi JAC demands IIIT in Ongole
Ongole: The Andhra Pradesh Vidyarthi Joint Action Committee demanded that the state government establish the APJ Abdul Kalam IIIT in Ongole only rather than the Dubagunta in Pamur mandal. The JAC asked the government to change its mind to establish the IIIT in a place distant from the main accessible location and drought hit area but set up it in Ongole for the convenience of students and their parents.
The APVJAC state president, Rayapati Jagadeesh said that the proposed establishment of the APJ Abdul Kalam IIIT at Dubagunta was against the wishes of the people of Prakasam district. He said that establishing the IIIT at 145 kilometers, near Pamur, makes the students suffer in journeys to and fro to the district capital. He demanded the government to explain the logic behind selecting the Dubagunta, where there were no water resources for the public at least.
He asked the government how it will provide water to the thousands of students without completing the Veligonda project by the time of the completion of the IIIT campus. He said that the government was taking decisions against the wishes of the public and surely will pay the price. The district general secretary P Murali, town president Karthik and others also participated in the programme.
