Bapatla: Head post master K Krishna Rao has said that mother's milk is an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of mothers and children and added that breastfeeding helps space apart births, reduces the risk of ovarian and breast cancer, and also has a protective effect against obesity.

“For babies, breast milk is the natural first food. It not only provides all the energy and nutrients that babies need in the initial months but also protects the child against infections like pneumonia and diarrhea,” he explained.

The valedictory function of World Breastfeeding Promotion Week was held under the aegis of Forum for Better Bapatla here on Tuesday.

He reminded that the postal department had released  a breast feeding postal stamp in 1981. The stamp was exhibited at Bapatla Head Post Office.

The forum secretary, P C Sai Babu, stamps collector Nanda Anjaneya Dutt, staff  Shalini Devi, Ramana and others participated.
