5 tmcft water released from Velugodu reservoir

Atmakur: MP of Nandyal SPY Reddy and MLA of Srisailam Budda Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday released 5 tmcft of water from Velugodu Balancing Reservoir to irrigate lakhs of acres in Kurnool, Kadapa, Nellore and Chittoor districts. Water released by upper riparian states of Maharashtra and Karnataka reached Srisailam dam. The backwaters of the project reached Velugodu Balancing Reservoir from Potireddypadu Project. 

A harti has been given to River Krishna and special pujas were performed to the river. Afterwards, another 5 tmcft of water will be released from the reservoir to quench the thirst of Chennai people.

Speaking in this connection, SPY Reddy said water is being released to save withering paddy crops in the ayacut area. The MLA appreciated Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for coming to the rescue of the farmers and helping them in all respects. The MLA urged farmers to cultivate dry crops to conserve the water.
