Railways to hand over old school building to Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation
Rajamahendravaram: With consistent efforts of MP Maganti Murali Mohan, the Railway Board has given its nod to handover the century old English medium school to Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC).
Railway Board director DV Rao has sent a letter to South Central Railway (SCR) general manager in this regard. With this letter, all decks were cleared to handover the school for a local body and the century old school will gets its past glory.
According to Murali Mohan, it is a first if its kind in the history of railways to handover their school for a local body, which was facing the threat of closure. Here after, the RMC will take care of the school and Railway Board given the existing school buildings to the corporation on lease. Steps will also be taken to upgrade the school as junior college from next academic year, the MP said.
The English medium school is one among them in the country as Railway Board had decided to close as the children of railway employees are not studying in the schools. As part of it, the Board issued directions to the respective school heads in 2017 not to take new admissions.
Currently, over 200 students are studying from Class VI to X. As the civic body handing over the school, classes from 1st to 5th standard will also be allowed, he added. Former RMC commissioner V Vijayarama Raju also given his consent to take over the school and given a letter in this regard.
