Nellore: Rural MLA K Sridhar Reddy handed over a representation to District Collector R Mutyala Raju here on Friday, requesting him to take action against multiplex theatres in the city as they have been collecting exorbitant prices on foods and beverages from the viewers.

In his representation, the MLA mentioned that MGB Mall, S2 Multiplex, MGB Cinema, and Siri Multiplex theatres were collecting double the cost on eatables, cool drinks and water bottles. He further mentioned that theatres are selling products with separate packing for higher price to movie-goers than that is being sold in the open market.

He stated 75 per cent of viewers in these theatres are common people and they were being exploited by multiplex theatres. The cost of eatables are equal to the amount of ticket cost, he stated, alleging that managements of these multiplexes have some arrangement with companies for collecting exorbitant prices from the consumers.

The legislator also mentioned that these multiplex managements have been collecting huge amount for parking fee even though the High Court had directed them not to do so.
