Vijayawada: Member of Legislative Council Tondepu Dasaratha Janardhan challenged BJP Rajya Sabha member GVL Narasimha Rao for an open debate on Personal Deposit (PD) accounts which the latter alleged resulted in massive misuse of funds.

In a statement here on Saturday, Janardhan wondered if the MP was aware that the Central government’s funds up to Rs 4 lakh crore were in PD accounts and recently the CAG pointed out that the Education Cess of Rs 86,000 crore remained unaccountable.

He asked if the MP would seek CBI investigation into the Central government PD accounts too. The MLC pointed out that the State government has 57,455 PD accounts and among them the State government had removed 12,822 accounts since there were no funds in them. “By 2018, AP has 44,633 PD accounts,” he said and pointed out that Rs 26, 516 crore was transacted from these accounts during 2016-17.

The Centre and the State government run these PD accounts as per the provisions of Article 266 (2) of the Indian Constitution, he clarified. The MLC said that the BJP government at the Centre was facing allegations that it was instrumental in letting Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi flee the country and the MP should provide an explanation in this regard to 5 crore people of Andhra Pradesh.
