Nellore: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy said that seeds would be supplied to the farmers for cultivation of alternative crops with 100 per cent subsidy where crops were dried up due to drought conditions.

Minister interacted with the officials at R & B Guest House in the city on Sunday and reviewed on drought conditions in the district. He directed the officials to be attentive and take measures for supporting the people.

Speaking to the media, Agriculture Minister said that farmers in the district had cultivated paddy in less area. Crops in some areas were dried up due to non-availability of water in the areas, he said.

He also explained that they had increased water release from Somasila reservoir to Penna catchment areas and farmers would get benefit if there is rainfall for 4 to 5 days in the district. There was no significant rainfall in Somasila catchment area this year which was the main reason for water scarcity, he said. They had instructed authorities to take measures to save standing crops, he added.

Minister Somireddy observed a tribal family who are residing under a tree at Kondayapalem Gate. He asked their details and directed officials to provide employment under NREGS and also housing to the family in Ozili mandal. He distributed clothes to the tribal family.
