5 L houses to be completed by March next year

Rajamahendravaram: Municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana said that the government was taking steps to complete the construction of  five lakh houses in the state by the end of March 2019. Directions were issued to respective departments to complete the houses as per schedule.

Speaking to reporters at Roads and Buildings guesthouse here on Monday, Narayana said steps were taken to address the problems relating to land allotment for construction of houses. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to purchase private land if there is no government land for the purpose and so far 500 acre private land was bought, he added.

“In Kakinada city, the land problem has been solved and the collector was directed to hand over 80 acre to the respective department. In Rajamahendravaram also the officials and MLAs have been asked to find out private land for the construction of houses. External, interior infrastructure is being provided in the completed houses,” Narayana said. 

High quality tiles, electric wires and other material is being used in the construction, he said while adding that housing minister of Goa and officials from other states inspected the houses and complimented the state government for constructing the houses with quality. Stating that the Chief Minister was determined to provide a house to everyone in the state, the minister said there was no dearth of funds for housing schemes and recently an amount of Rs 10,000 crore loan was availed for implementing them. 

He said Anna canteens were getting tremendous response across the state and added that 120 more canteens would be launched shortly in addition to the current 80 canteens. The canteens were designed to serve food for 500 people, including breakfast, lunch and dinner for Rs 5, he said while adding that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu had given nod to open more canteens to cater the needs of poor people.
