3 year jail for NHAI engineer for accepting bribe
Rajamahendravaram: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court special judge A Gayatri Devi delivered a judgement imposing three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 to an executive engineer of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), here on Tuesday for accepting bribe.
The executive engineer, Mallikarjuna Rao was working in Kakinada division. According to Additional SP, SK Shakila Bhanu, executive engineer Mallikarjuna Rao was arrested when he was accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from Venkatadri of Chillangi village of Prathipadu mandal on November 18, 2008.
Venkatadri was running a petrol bunk adjacent to the national highway and he approached the executive engineer to provide a way to his bunk by cutting the divider.
But, Mallikarjuna Rao demanded an amount of Rs 20,000 to do his work. With this, he lodged a complaint with ACB deputy superintendent of police in Rajamahendravaram.
Special public prosecutor KVV Satyanarayana argued the case under the supervision of ACB deputy superintendent of police M Sudhakar Rao.
