Plastic ban from Oct 2: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati chief

Tirupati: V Vijay Rama Raju, the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner, said on Thursday that complete plastic ban in pilgrim city would be implemented from October 2.

To create awareness about the adverse impact on using plastic, the civic chief and Tirupati MLA Suguna flagged off a massive rally at MCT office here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Rama Raju has informed the public that temple city is facing hurdles in maintaining sanitation due to excess use of plastic.

Addressing the gathering, TUDA Chairman Narasimha Yadav has stated municipal drains are choking and obstructing sewage flow with the dumping of plastic. Thus, leading to inundation of low lying colonies in the city, he mentioned. MLA Tirupati Suguna gave a call for residents to avoid using plastic.

The rally which began at MCT office passed through Tilak Road, Sunnapu Veedhi and Nalugukalla Mandapam has concluded at railway station. Earlier, the civic body officials displayed the cloth bags to educate public against the plastic use at MCT office.

In the rally, Deputy Commissioner MVD Phaniram, Tirupati Chamber of Commerce President Manjunath, students from various corporation schools, NGO representatives and others took part.
