He donates Rs one lakh for school compound wall

Akiveedu: Students, teachers and alumni of Pulavarthi Lakshmana Swamy Zilla Parishad High School here get a surprise gift on Independence Day when obstacles in the way of school development were cleared.

Inheritor of the landlord, who donated five acres to the high school long ago, handed over the land to the school amidst Independence Day celebrations on Tuesday.

The development of the school had suffered a blow as some persons claimed rights over the land. So far, the issue was in court making it difficult for the authorities to take up the development of the high school.

About a century ago, landlord Pulavarthi Lakshmana Swamy offered the land to the high school. Since then, the school was named after the liberal Zamindar.

However, some years ago, the heirs of Zamindar approached court claiming rights over the land.

The efforts of the officials all these years to take up development activity proved futile as the inheritors wanted to take back the land. Even local MLA tried to settle the issue and get the school developed. He proposed a mini stadium on the school premises.

The school students and alumni had formed a JAC and sought help of the court to retain the land for school.

On Wednesday, inheritor Pulavarthi Lakshman attended flag hoisting at the school as part of Independence Day celebrations. Amidst applause from the gathering, Lakshman announced that he was handing over the land measuring 5 acres 10 cents to the school.

He also announced Rs 1 lakh donation to the school for construction of compound wall.

Head mistress Kakarla Rajeswari received the donation from Lakshman on Thursday. He also submitted a written authentication transferring the land for the school and its development.
