Meet on phyto-resources organised at Maris Stella College in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: The Department of Botany of Maris Stella College in collaboration with IIIT, Hyderabad organised a one-day national seminar on ‘Conservation and Sustainability of Phyto-Resources’ on the college premises here on Friday.

CVL Karuna, HoD of Botany explained the theme of the seminar. Phyto is the Greek word for plant.  Fruits and vegetables contain phytonutrients.  

This seminar helps to bring awareness among the students about phytonutrients which are helpful in preventing diseases and keeping our body working properly.

The chief guest of the seminar Dr Ravi Prasad Rao, department of Botany, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Anantapur  in his keynote address explained the proper utilisation of plant resources and overexploitation of these resources destroy the world  and explained about how to remove unpollutedness inside and outside. 

He said chemical free technology methods should be followed by the farmers which was essential to reduce pollution.  He stressed on the importance of Eastern Ghats with greater biodiversity.  

Guest of honour Dr A Amrutavalli, associate professor, Department of Botany and Micro biology, ANU, Guntur, Dr M Lakshmi Prasad, MD, Sujay Biotech, Vijayawada, Dr AN Sringeswara, Curator, M G Botanical Garden, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and others were present.
