Woman dies in wall collapse as rains hit normal life

Akiveedu: Rains during the past two days has claimed the life of a woman in a wall-collapse incident at Santa Market here on Friday. The deceased was identified as Veeram Peddintla (48). The woman died on the spot when the wall collapsed.

The rains have unleashed devastation to old structures and roads in the town. Rain water marooned several streets apart from damage to roads.  

The vehicle users have been suffering due to accidents on highway near HP bunk. The road was damaged in such a way that many accidents were taking place here with injuries to road users.

The Kollaparru-Akividu road was inundated by rain water prompting the local people to drain water using motors. Even Akiveedu- Juvvalapalem road was flooded with rain water. At electricity office, the water stagnated on the road.

Santinagar in Akiveedu was submerged in two feet water. The villagers complaining that the present situation was because of non-existence of drainage system. 

They brought the problem to the notice of officials by staging dharna programmes and Panchayat office and Tahsildar office. The colony residents have been complaining that they had been fighting over the drainage problem for two months and even represented the same to the local MLA. 

In spite of his visit to the village, nothing was done to check the problem and save them from inundation. Though the roads had turned from bad to worse, R&B officials have done nothing to solve the problem. The potholes on roads are posing challenge to the road users.
