Flamenco workshop at VIT-AP concludes in Vijayawada
Vijayawada: The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT-AP) dance club ’Beat the Heat’ has organised Flamenco workshop which concluded on the college premises on Saturday. The workshop was conducted by Yuka Shori, a professional expert and trainer of the Flamenco art form.
Yuka Shori said that Flamenco art form has its roots in Indian, Arabic, and Spanish culture, and the dance was known for its sweeping arm movements and rhythmic feet stomping. She said that Flamenco dancers spend a great deal of time practising and perfecting the often-difficult dance.
Although, there is no single flamenco dance, dancers must follow a strict framework of rhythmic patterns.
The steps a dancer performs are dependent on the traditions of the song being played and the greatest joy of flamenco dancing is watching the personal expressions and emotions of the dancer, which change many times during a single performance.
Yuka Shori said she learnt Flamenco at SFC Spanish dance group in Keio University in Japan from 2006 to 2010 and had several national stage experiences conducted by FLESPON (National Student Flamenco Federation).
As a trainee, she completed professional teacher training course of ‘Introduction to Basic Flamenco’ conducted by Alegria Dance School in Japan.
VIT-AP Students participated and learnt the art of Basic Flamenco. Dr CLV Siva Kumar, Registrar of VIT-AP University, felicitated Yuka Shori and lauded her skills and patience in offering training.
