One-man commission receives petitions in Anantapur
Anantapur: Several SC, ST organisations submitted memorandums to the one-man commission headed by retired IAS officer J C Sarma arguing against inclusion of other castes into SCs and STs.
They submitted petitions that SC, ST reservations constituted 15 per cent quota in jobs and education institutions as such inclusion of more castes into them would do injustice to the existing sub-castes.
The government instituted a one-man panel headed by Sarma to look into demand of Budaga Jangam and other castes for inclusion into SCs.
The commission came to inquire into the status of the castes both on social and economic front. Sarma addressed revenue officers and gave directions on issue of caste certificates.
He asked revenue officers to write to the government on complicated matters which needed legal enlightenment.
District Collector Veera Pandian and Joint Collector Dilly Rao and other revenue officers were present.
