Kakinada port receives capsized vessel
Kakinada: Deep Water Port of Kakinada received one capsized vessel M V Wisdom.
According to state port authorities, capsize vessels were the largest dry cargo vessels. Vessels of this class are bulk carriers. Usually they are used for transporting coal, ore and other commodity raw materials.
The average size of a capsized bulker was around 156,000 DWT. Larger ships normally dedicated to ore transportation of up to 400,000 DWT.
The large dimensions and deep drafts of such vessels mean that only the largest deep-water terminals can accommodate them.
Sub categories of capsize vessels includes very large ore carriers (VLOC) and very large bulk carriers (VLBC) of above 200,000 DWT. These vessels are mainly designed to carry iron ore.
The authorities also disclosed that as on date all the minor ports in Andhra Pradesh are ready to handle the capsize vessels.
