Residents block highway over flood problem in Akiveedu
Akiveedu: Residents of Timmaraju Colony in Akiveedu mandal blocked national highway here on Sunday, protesting against the ‘official apathy’ to solve their problem of inundation of residential localities due to rains during the last few days.
Braving heavy rain, they staged the rasta roko agitation for about one hour. Traffic on Akiveedu- Bhimavaram highway badly hit because of the protest.
Rain water entered residential localities and two feet water stranded in the low-lying areas for a couple of days.
The drainage system provided with the World Bank funds on two sides of Kaikaluru-Akividu a few years ago was encroached by business people some time back.
Now, as there was no drainage to carry the flood water, the surrounding localities have been submerging when it rains heavily.
