40 tonnes liquid steel spills in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: Over 40 tonnes of liquid steel spilled on the floor following a technical snag at Steel Melt Shop-2 in Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Monday. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
The liquid hot metal, which is being melted at 1,200 centigrade, spilled over on the floor due to a technical issue at the ladder being shifted the steel to blast furnace. The liquid steel also spilled into the machinery, which causes to stop the production for about 2 hours. However, senior engineers rushed to the spot and started damage control measures.
Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official of the RINL said that it is common in the steel factories that the liquid steel sometimes spill on the ground. He said that it will be a loss of Rs 2 crore and the steel which spilled on the ground would be sent to scrap.
