Junior College correspondent booked in rape attempt case
Visakhapatnam: The police have taken the correspondent of Visakha Vocational Junior College BVNS Kumar into their custody on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to rape a student of his college. Though the incident took place on Friday near Muralinagar in the city, it came to light on Tuesday after the girl revealed it to her classmates and approached the police.
Irate with the incident, students of the college roughed up the accused Kumar and damaged the furniture in the college located near Two-Town Police Station in the city. The police reached the spot and pacified the agitated students and took the accused into custody.
As the alleged rape attempt took place at Muralinagar in the city, the Kancharapalem police have registered a case and are investigating into the details. The police said the accused called the girl student to his house on Friday under the pretext of helping him in cleaning the house.
When the girl reached the home, Kumar locked the door and tried to rape her as there was no other at home. The girl protested and somehow managed to escape from the house, Assistant Commissioner of Police Lanka Arjun said.
On getting information that students and others are attacking BVNS Kumar, his wife, who is working at another college, reached the college and supported the agitating students. She also levelled charges against her husband.
She told the media that one Gowri, who is illegally staying with her husband is behind the drama. She also alleged that Gowri is influencing her husband and also collecting money from the students.
She demanded a detailed inquiry including Gowri’s role in the incident. The accused wife is staying separately away from him. The police have booked cases against Kumar under relevant sections of rape and molestation. Further investigation is progressing.
