SFI demands amenities at social welfare hostels
Visakhapatnam: The students under the aegis of SFI staged a rally here on Monday from GVMC to the collectorate demanding proper infra structure facilities at government welfare hostel located near city library in the city. The police intervened the rally at GVMC and advised the students not to move towards Collectorate as the grievance cell meeting going on from Monday.
But the students raised anti-government slogans and demanded the district welfare official to provide all facilities like drinking water, toilets and reading rooms in a stipulated period. The welfare officials, who rushed to the spot, assured the students that they will fulfil their demands but rejected to give it in a written format. Sensing the situation goes out of control, the police arrested some of the SFI leaders.
SFI Central Committee member Chinnari said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who always quotes that educated youth is backbone of the state, failed to provide minimum basic amenities at student welfare hostels.
Though the TDP government had constructed Anna Canteens with an expenditure of Rs 50 lakh, it had totally failed to provide washrooms and other amenities at welfare hostels in the district, she said. She also demanded that the government increase the mess bills and scholarship amount to students.
