Visakhapatnam: The state government has decided to popularise its welfare schemes among the people by deploying special teams with the members of stage and street play artistes. The teams will move into the villages, municipalities in the district and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and perform skits, dramas and songs explaining about the Telugu Desam government’s welfare schemes.

The state government has allotted 49 teams to Visakhapatnam district considering one team to each mandal for 39 mandals, three teams for three municipalities and seven teams to the GVMC to ensure one team in each zone. The teams will visit to allotted areas and perform skits creating awareness on the welfare schemes.

The district administration organised a one-day training camp for 49 teams on Tuesday in the city. Inaugurating the training programme, Additional Joint Collector Dr A Siri called up on the artistes to conduct the street plays, group songs and dramas to popularise the government schemes.

Though the government has been implementing several welfare schemes covering all walks of lives in society, due to lack of awareness, people are not properly utilising the facilities and sops, she lamented.

During the past four years, the state government has introduced many welfare programmes benefiting all categories. The teams by playing interesting skits, covering the state government programmes should educate the people, Siri said.

According to the government directive, the teams would conduct the programmes till December end this year. However, she appealed the artistes to be very careful while performing the skits and not to give chance for criticism and allegations about the language, communities and other objectionable issues.

Deputy Director of Public Relations V Maniram asked the teams to write good skits and dramas on the welfare programmes. The stage and street plays must create more awareness among the people on the schemes, he added.
