Dharna against clinical trials

Visakhapatnam: Demanding for a stringent action against the doctors, who are conducting clinical trials on the patients in the King George Hospital, the CPI staged a dharna at King George Hospital on Tuesday. The party pointed out that the doctors are illegally conducting clinical trials on the patients in the hospital.

Addressing a gathering, CPI district secretary BV Ramana alleged that the number of pharmaceutical companies manufacturing research medicines were reportedly bribing the doctors, some staff and conducting the clinical trials in the hospital. Some of the pharmaceutical companies also paying monthly salaries to some of the staff in the hospital to ensure a smooth run of the trials on the patients, he alleged.

The other leaders also alleged that some pharmaceutical companies also arranging foreign trips to the doctors’ families to conduct the clinical trials of their new medicines, he alleged. The government should initiate stringent action against the doctors for committing the offences, the leaders demanded. Party senior leaders, including M Pydiraju, Satya Sai, P Chandrasekhar, G Rambabu and Nandanna, addressed the gathering.
