Paddy in 6,974 hectares inundated, says minister Prattipati Pullarao

Eluru: Minister for Civil Supplies Prattipati Pullarao informed that paddy in 6,974 hectares was inundated due to incessant rains in West Godavari district.

The district in-charge minister participated in videoconference with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Tuesday. Later, accompanied by Excise Minister Jawahar, MP Thota Seetharama Lakshmi and District Collector K Bhaskar, he addressed reporters.

He said that roads worth Rs 250 crore were damaged in heavy rains and floods during the past four days. People in 55 villages of 14 mandals were rushed to rescue camps in the district. 

A total 12,000 flood-affected people have been provided shelter at the relief camps. As many as 32 rehabilitation centres were opened to accommodate the flood victims. 

While 180 houses were badly damaged, another 143 houses were partially damaged due to rains and floods, he said.

The minister informed that preliminary damage to property was put at Rs 5.5 crore. 

Medical teams have been asked to take care of the people’s health in relief camps. 

Food, drinking water, milk for children and other essentials were being supplied, he added.
