4 students washed away in Krishna
Guntur: Four students drowned in the Krishna river, downstream to Prakasam barrage, at Gundimeda village in Tadepalli mandal in Guntur district on Wednesday.
According to police, seven school students went to Krishna river bank for watching the river being in spate in an auto from Chirravuru village. After watching the river, four of them entered the river and were washed away.
The victims were identified as N Kranthi Kumar (10), N Seshi (7) Dinesh (7) and Shiva (14). Kranthi Kumar and N Seshi were brothers, studying in a government school in Chirravur, Dinesh and Shiva were in private school in the same village.
The NDRF teams rushed to the spot and struggled for four hours and finally fished out their bodies from the river. The victims’ parents and relatives who rushed to spot grieved inconsolably over their death. Due to heavy inflows into the Krishna river, discharge has also been on the rise for the last few days.
Speaking to The Hans India, Guntur urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao, said: "Four students who went into Krishna river for swimming fell into the river and were drowned. We have retrieved their bodies." Guntur MP Galla Jayadev visited the scene of accident and consoled the parents.
