CPM blames corruption for breach of canal bunds on Bhimavaram outskirts

Update: 2018-08-25 05:30 IST

Bhimavaram: The CPM has alleged that the state government has been spending huge amount in the name of modernisation of canal bunds.

In spite of this, the bunds have been developing breaches at different places. They attributed poor quality of bunds’ construction responsible for breaches to the bunds.

A team of the party led by the delta district unit secretary, B Balaram has visited Taderu crop canal bund on the Bhimavaram outskirts.

Speaking on the occasion, Balaram found fault with the government for compromising on quality while constructing the bunds.

He alleged that irrespective of huge spending, corruption took place in construction.

He attributed the breaches to canals to large-scale corruption. Hundreds of crores of rupees were cornered by ruling party leaders and officials, he alleged.

The CPM leader charged the government with failure to strengthen canal bunds resulting in damage to crops because of breaches.

As hundreds of acres of crop was inundated because of the breaches, the government should compensate for the loss by giving Rs 20,000 per acre to the victimised farmers.

The CPM town secretary, B Vasudeva Rao, leaders Vykunta Rao, Ch Venkateswara Rao and others were present.
