Cops call upon people to install CCTV cameras
Visakhapatnam: In making the City of Destiny more safer, the city police came forward with various concepts appealing the people to install CCTV cameras in and around their surroundings which are directly connected to the Police Control Room 24/7.
According to sources, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has been installing 500 CCTV cameras under the Smart City project and the city police would install 1,638 CCTV cameras as a part of the AP fibre grid project. In addition to that the city police appealed the denizens to come forward voluntarily to procure CCTV equipment and police core team will support them in installation and provide technical support.
A senior police officer said that with several CCTV cameras, the city police will not only be able to monitor but also prevent any untoward incident or law and order problem. Of the total 2,100 CCTV cameras, most will be useful for surveillance while a few cameras will identify vehicles by reading the number plates.
The automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras would help them in curbing crimes like vehicle thefts and rash driving. Similarly, some cameras will identify the vehicles for jumping the red light and a few cameras will help the police to track the criminals by facials recognition.
