Nellore, Guntur record maximum road mishaps last month

Amaravati: Highest number of road accidents were reported in Nellore and Guntur districts in the State last month. Transport Department Commissioner Subrahmanyam informed this to Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar during a review meeting on Monday at the Secretariat.

The road accidents on national highways were high in the districts of Guntur, East Godavari, Chittoor, Krishna and Visakhapatnam. He further said that they were organising road safety programmes every month and holding meetings with road safety committees.

A total of 971 lorry accidents were reported in the State during July 2018, whereas 1,040 accidents happened in the same period of the previous year. 

While 1,411 two-wheeler accidents happened in the State in July last year, 1273 were reported this year. The auto-rickshaw accidents registered were 483 the last year and 378 this year. 

Other accidents recorded were 845 in July 2017, but they went down to 739 during the same month this year. During the meeting, the Chief Secretary directed the officials to provide education on primary health care to the police.
