Man gets 14-year jail for ganja smuggling

Visakhapatnam: For the first time, the Metropolitan Sessions court has imposed a huge fine of Rs 1 lakh along with 14 years of imprisonment for an accused who transported ganja illegally in a van from Chinthapalli Agency area via Rolugunta, Kothakota.

According to the sources, the accused S Nooka Raju,27, a resident of Yetigairammapeta village of Golugonda mandal has been caught while transporting 627 kgs of contraband ganja in a Bolero van from Chinthapalli Agency area via Rolugunta, Kothakota. 

The Kothakota police intercepted the van and arrested the accused at Dharmateja petrol bunk near Kothakota limits and seized 627 kgs of ganja and registered a case under NDPS Act and sent the accused to remand.  

After hearing the prosecution charges, the Metropolitan Sessions court judge S Nagarjuna delivered the verdict. In case, the accused did not pay the fine, he has to undergo one-year imprisonment additionally.
