Veligonda is the right of Prakasam district

Veligonda: Veligonda project is the right of Prakasam district people, announced Ongole former MP YV Subba Reddy. He completed Praja Padayatra at Veligonda project on Tuesday. He covered five Assembly constituencies in Prakasam district during his padayatra.

Speaking at the public meeting on Tuesday, Subba Reddy said that though the district has a population of 33 lakh with 13 lakh youngsters, three lakh plus graduates and more than 13 lakh acres of land with six lakh farmers cultivating it, Prakasam district is a backward district.

He said that the reason is that 70 per cent of the people and 50 per cent of the land are deprived of water and it the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who had started the construction of the projects to supply drinking and irrigation water. He said that the TDP government is neglecting the the Veligonda project and that is the reason for his Praja Padayatra.

Subba Reddy said that he observed only elderly people in the villages he passed on and the youngsters are migrated to towns for work. He said that completion of Veligonda project is the only solution to save farmers from drought, migration, people from kidney and fluorosis diseases. 

He alleged that Chandrababu Naidu postponed the completion of the Veligonda project and now, he announced Sankranti as the deadline. He said that the Chief Minister is trying to cheat the people with false promises.

YSR Congress Party district president Balineni Srinivasa Reddy challenged the TDP district leaders that he will tonsure his head if they would complete the first phase of Veligonda project and supply water by Sankranti. Nellore former MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy said that 80 per cent of the irrigation projects in the state were completed by YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
