Poor attendance of teachers irks Collector K Bhaskar in Eluru
Eluru: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar on Thursday warned District Education Officer CV Renuka of action, if there would be no improvement in poor teacher attendance in schools within a week.
He reviewed progress of education in the district schools at Collectorate here. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector was surprised by poor attendance of teachers in different government schools in the district.
Analysing the details of teacher biometric attendance on August 29 submitted by the DEO, he informed the officials that only 74 per cent of teachers attended for duty.
Out of total 13,440 teachers in 2,845 government schools, only 10,053 attended for duty. Surprisingly, 4,483 teachers attended late to duties. Another 8,497 teachers left the school early.
An angry Collector questioned the DEO that what for the government spending so much for the education if teachers themselves turned irresponsible.
How could they teach discipline to students, when they lacked it in the first place, he wondered.
The Collector asked the DEO why did she maintain silence when some teachers spoiling the school education system.
If the DEO fails to act against the teachers, soon she had to pay the price, he warned.
Bhaskar directed the Mandal Education Officers to monitor the attendance of teachers in their respective mandals.
