Farmers advised to construct godowns

Kurnool: District Collector S Sathyanrayana suggested to the onion farmers to construct godowns for storage of onion stocks. He participated in Grama Darshini conducted at Uppalapadu village in Orvakal mandal on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Sathyanarayana said the government is extending 75 per cent subsidy for the construction of godowns if the formers set up farmer produce organisations (FPOs).  By constructing the godowns, the farmers can store farm produce and sell them when the price is remunerative or else can store for further period, he said.

The Collector also suggested the farmers to stop wide usage of chemical fertilisers and to adopt natural farming which is less expensive and give good output. The government is even extending drip irrigation equipment with 90 per cent subsidy basis and urged the farmers to utilise the facility.

He also suggested digging farm ponds to store rain water. He makes inquiries with the villagers about the ration, pensions, implementation of mid-day meals, eggs and other things. He ordered the bankers to extend loans to tenant farmers.

Sathyanarayana also said that two doctors and two ANMs would visit every village to check the health conditions of 0-18 yrs old children under Mukya Mantri Bala Arogya Raksha scheme. After check-up if any disease is detected then they will prescribe medicines. He advised the farmers to take membership in Chandranna Beema Scheme.

District Education Officer (DEO), Tehara Sultana, Orvakal Tahsildar, Narendranath Reddy, MPDO, Mandal and village level officers, doctors and others participated in the grama darshini programme.
