AP Govt ITI deprived of growth owing to official apathy

Update: 2018-09-02 05:30 IST

Chittoor: Government Industrial Training Institute ( ITI ) which  was established  in 1962 is trailing  behind far from progress.  Out of the earmarked strength of 460 students, only 250 students are presently admitted in the institute.

It is to be noted that only 7 girl students have joined here out of 200 seats reserved for them. Earlier there was hostel facility for the students, but it was closed  a decade ago.  Sixty per cent of posts have been vacant at the ITI for the past two decades.

Though there are adequate opportunities for the  ITI students, they are not interested to join the institution, it is observed. All the internal roads at the ITI  are badly  damaged.  The 50-year-old building and sheds   of various trades  wear a deserted look  in the absence of  students.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday,  K Radhakrishna  Murthy, Principal,  Government ITI, Chittoor admitted that 60 percent of the teaching  posts are vacant in 11 trades like  machanical, electrician, fitter, turner, plastic processing, welding and other wings. ``There  was a  ban on   filling the vacancies of  ITI since twenty five years.

The higher officials are not taking interest to fill the vacancies. We are relentlessly  striving to develop the institutions within our limits  and resources, ” he said. Due to lack of compound wall to the ITI, out of 30 acres of  land , 15 acres of land was  encroached  or assigned   to other purposes, he ridiculed.

He stressed that  Government   should immediately  take necessary steps for filling the  teaching  vacancies  to instill confidence among the students so that number of admissions will be improved.  NSesha Reddy, Deputy Training Officer and others were present.
