Strive for further development of varsity, Vice-Chancellor exhorts staff

Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) on Sunday celebrated its 65th Formation Day.To mark the occasion, University Vice-Chancellor AvulaDamodharam paid respects to the leaders who were responsible for the formation of the university and garlanded the statues of the personalities. 

Accompanied by seniorofficials and faculty members, the vice-chancellor first garlanded the statue of Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, who as the then chief minister of Andhra State, had taken up initiative to set up the university in Tirupati on a sprawling 1000 acre land given by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanamson long term lease.

The university offers higher education for the development of backward Rayalaseema region. The V-C garlanded the statue of former president Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy, who hailed from Rayalaseema and who had a special love for Tirupati, Chelikani Anna Rao, the then TTD EO was instrumental for the university in getting 1000 acre land.

Respects were paid to others, including the firstvice-chancellor Govindarajulu Naidu, who laid foundation forthe university to develop as a leading educational institution. Speaking on the occasion, Damodharam said that with the funding fromRUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) several development works

were taken up in the last three years in the university helping the university to bagmany national andinternational awards for quality education and improving standards.He gave a brief account of the initiativesincluding `Digital SVU’, development of University Library, AmbedkarKnowledge Park and Campus Schools, clean and green, solar energy and other programmes. The university in its 64 years of existence prepared lakhs of students as scientists, scholars and in other positions in the country and abroad.
